Mazda2 Lease Review - The Mazda2 is not exactly diminutive, but it is small by subcompact sector standards. So what’s packed into this semi-diminutive package?

Mazda2’s details give it a distinctive look, like the “wings” over the front wheels, the 5-corner grille, and the circles interior “theme” (round air vents, heater controls, console display, etc.). The interior feel is plush and spacious.

Choose between one diesel and two petrol models, all Euro 5 compliant. Out of Mazda’s five options, testers favour the 83BHP manual 1.3 and 101bhp 1.5-litre diesel. Mazda2 is popular for use in driving schools and may also be successful with Motability Scheme customers.

This is an adept, responsive, driver-friendly around-town car. On the motorway, the Mazda2 seems to panic for a moment before settling into composed cruising. Expect to find the steering quick and direct and the ride easy-going although you’ll jostle with the potholes. The overall feel of the drive is delightfully sporty.

The entry-level 1.3 engine gives good return for the investment with a claimed average 55.4mpg and 115g/km CO2. The same performance figures are given for the 1.3-litre engine; the 1.5-litre engine’s performance drops a bit to 48.7mpg and 132g/km CO2. The diesel 1.6 offers the best performance return at 67.3mpg and 110g/km.

Mazda2 delivers a zippy, capable drive with a dash of sparkle – all cleverly fitted into its diminutive subcompact package.
