Ten Second Review
Volkswagen Passat Lease Review - The VW Passat family saloon features a roomy, comfortable cabin with an adequate amount of tech, even at lower specs. All models include the bear minimum for a modern car; a digital radio, Bluetooth, air conditioning and alloy wheels. You have to get up to a SE Business trim before you get sat-navs as standard, though, and the R-Line trim doesn't include much else apart from sportier styling.
The Passat manages well on refined roads, but can get a little jittery when it comes to unmanaged town roads. Driving over bumps and potholes definitely isn't its strong point, especially at high speed. However, steering is well balanced and direct.
Economy gets worse and worse the more you spend on the vehicle, which is a weird trend that I see happening far too often. Do they just assume that you have plenty of money to waste away on petrol and tax?
On paper, the R-Line versions manage 53-69mpg, the lower figures coming from the most expensive model, the 2.0 litre 240PS. The only benefits that seem to come from buying higher specs is speed and equipment grade, but when the pros and cons are weighed, it might just be best to stick with the lower specs, the S and more so the SE.
