Since the first Earth Day in 1970, millions of people across the UK have come out in force each year to show their support for the environment and to address and highlight the urgent action required to save the planet. However, this year it’s slightly different as the organisers have called for three days of climate action from 20 – 22 April 2021 with a ‘Restore Our Earth’ theme. The global show EARTHDAY.ORG will have its second Earth Day Live at 17:00 GMT on 22 April 2021.
Experts have estimated to limit global warming back down to 1.5 C, the Global net human-caused emissions of CO2 would need to fall by 45% by 2030.
Now more than ever, the automotive industry knows it has an important role to play in improving air quality and protecting the health and wellbeing of the population. With the Government’s ban on the sale of petrol and diesel internal combustion engines by 2030, electric vehicles (EVs) have been fast-tacked as the future of transport.
Car manufacturers are producing EVs (Electric Vehicles) with the cleanest of technology at breakneck speed.
When it comes to choosing your next car, we now have our pick from the widest ever choice of zero-emission cars. Incredibly, one in every three models on the market today is a low-emission vehicle. And, the best news for climate change is that cars are emitting -21.7% less CO2 than their 2010 counterparts meaning we have the cleanest vehicles in history on our roads according to SMMT. This massive reduction in CO2 emissions is a direct result of formerly diesel drivers moving to alternatively fuelled vehicles (AFVs).
At Intelligent Car Leasing, our figures are similar. The demand for our electric vehicles (EVs) has seen a sharp upward trend. The Tesla Model 3 for example sits joint second place in our top 10 enquired models’ year to date; further illustrating the burgeoning interest we’re seeing in electric vehicles.
If you’re ready to play your part by switching to fully-electric driving, check out our current EV and Hybrid lease deals which will make a difference to both your pocket and the planet. And, if you’re curious about what the leading manufacturers might have up their sleeves for EVs arriving in 2021 and beyond then check out our future list of EVs here.
The future looks green, and we’re ready to play our part!
